God I hope Wickens is OK. That was the scariest crash I have seen in a long time. Never good to see a car in the fence.

I think he will be fine. The crash tub worked and his hits were deflections. Hopefully this creates enough will to implement head protection next season.

I did not like how low and far forward his head was once he landed back on the track. Thankfully he hit nose first and not top down but you still have to fear for the neck and legs. This reminds me a lot of Franchittis crash and that was 50-100 mph slower than this crash.
Indycar is already deep into the design of their aeroshield and hopefully this will put further momentum behind the push to have that ready for 2019.

Michael Andretti already throwing shade at Wickens

If Wickens getting in the catch fence isn’t the push that Indycar needs to ensure that the Aeroscreen is in place for 2019, that damage to Hunter-Reay’s roll hoop is .

I get Michael’s point. Wickens probably should have pulled out of that move considering it was effectively lap 1. On the other hand RHR just admitted that he knew Wickens was down there and was expecting him to pull out.

jesus. had not seen that image.
very violent crash and obviously reminiscent of Kenny Brack. I hope Wickens is fine and I fear he is not. Dont like helicopter evacs.

“Awake and alert” may be the best thing I have heard all day. They have taken Robert to the area hospital but he has been awake and alert which is great to hear.

“Awake and alert” may be the best thing I have heard all day. They have taken Robert to the area hospital but it sounds like as far as critical systems go he is going to be OK.

They just wanted to make sure I could watch the rest of it (I literally just walked in the door after a 2:20 drive and they’re restarting)
